The name

Three words that mean two things

Do not forget today

The call you promised. The appointment. The festival that arrives on a working Tuesday, eight thousand miles from where everyone else is celebrating it. Set a reminder once and let it come back every day, week, month or year.

Do not forget

The language you first prayed in. The proverbs your grandparents quoted at the dinner table. Living abroad, these fade quietly unless something keeps them close. This app keeps them in your pocket.

The lamp on the icon

शुभं करोति कल्याणं आरोग्यं धनसंपदा ।
शत्रुबुद्धिविनाशाय दीपज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तुते ॥

It brings good fortune, wellbeing, health and plenty, and it puts an end to ill will. To the flame of the lamp, I bow.

Many families say this verse when the evening lamp is lit. The app's icon is that lamp, the diya, because remembering starts with a small light kept burning.

Who made it

Built by one person, for his own community

Do Not Forget Today is made by Milind Ranade, a filmmaker, cartoonist, animator and teacher with deep roots in Marathi culture and the Mumbai film industry.

He writes Jharoka himself and curates what goes into the app. It is the first piece of a larger cultural project for Indians living far from home.
